Our six-episode miniseries "bellybutton" is  inspired by the concept of the bellybutton—as the center of the body and the first source of food from mother to child, yet often overlooked and neglected. Our story follows Genevieve, who leaves home after a fight with her mother, Melody, to move in with her college boyfriend in Columbus, Ohio, hoping their relationship can withstand the pressures of the real world. As she navigates the complexities of her limerence—complicated further by her boyfriend's lingering teenage lover—her life begins to echo her mother’s past as a young secretary jilted by a lover, “bellybutton” is a journey to self realization through a web of intergenerational  love stories : through this narrative we look at black women and girls, the choices and decisions they have to make to become the people that they are.
