Inspired by the themes of "bellybutton”, a television seriesthat explores the bond between black mothers and daughters, BRIGHTBLACK-
An Evening of Colorful Narratives in Sweater Weather" is an immersive, intergenerational dialogue event that explores the intricate relationships between mothers and daughters asthey journey from girlhood to womanhood. Through a blendof poetry, film, and visual arts, this event delves into the shared and divergent experiences that shape identity, femininity, and community. The evening will be an exploration of themes such as gender roles, beauty, ageism, fashion, culture, love, heartbreak, and family dynamics, brought to life through the voices and visions of women from different
generations.
We will be showing previews of "bellybutton" for the first time with a live audience - the documenatry "daughters of a certain rainbow featuring a live band, light snacks and drinks included, interactive photo stations, featured artists, poetry by Ajanae Hawkins and many more.
